Week 2

This week Rebecca helped me set up a class blog for my service learning skills students. What a treat. I looked for other blogs that connected service learning to esl and blogs. This is what I found: http://eslservicelearning.blogspot.com/2008/01/introductions.html It really doesn't have anything to do with service learning, but it was interesting seeing the variety of students she has in her class, at least in terms of countries represented. That's it for now.

Service Learning ESL

Service Learning is an opportunity for students to bring their strengths and interests to the greater community though volunteer work and contribution. They learn about American culture and local culture by interacting with local people from various backgrounds. For ESL, sttudents are challenged to use their English speaking and listerning skills in an authentic context. Ultimately, international students are encouraged to bring these insights back into their own communities and explore volunteerism at home when they return.
